I have an extensive home automation system which includes more than 100 i.o.t devices. These are spread all over my yard and perform functions as simple as opening/closing shed doors to controlling irrigation solenoids to monitoring the water level in the 5 tanks that I have.

Many of these devices are now considered "mission critical" and must have reliable communications. The fairly commonplace home setup of a wireless Internet modem, and not much else, was never going to cut it for what I am doing. The two UAP-AC-M-OEM units that I purchased from UBWH Australia have been added to an existing one of these and four UAP-AC-Lite units that are mounted inside the house and shed. I now have excellent coverage with no black spots.

The UAP-AC-M-OEM units were pretty much plug-and-play and come with POE adapters to power them. I did hard-wire them but they also mesh and I could have configured them that way. Either way is easy. All I had to do was "adopt" them in the Unifi Network program that I already had installed and they were literally up and running in minutes.

Unifi has copped a bad rap, possibly deservedly, over the dearth of products that are on the market at the moment and i have been waiting for more than 18 months to track down the two units that I just purchased, but the quality of the gear (once you have gotten hold of it) makes it all worth while.

I bought this access point to provide some extra wifi coverage outside our house for cameras and wifi for the shed. It was super easy to set up via the app as an independent device, which is good enough for us to manage things.
I already have a Unifi u6 lite set up on one side of the house under a verandah and the AC Mesh helped complete the connectivity we needed on the other side. I've given each device their own name so we know what we're connected to, maybe not ideal in the IT world, but it's working for us.
Range seems to give about 150-200m without obstructions. Trees in the way do hamper connection at bit by reducing range.
