This category includes pre-configured and pre-tested Point-to-Point (PtP) Bridge links. All you have to do is mount them, point the two ends at each other, and power up.

What is a PtP Bridge Link?

In simple terms, you can think of this as a LAN cable in the sky. Typical applications include:

  • Extending the LAN from one building to another
  • Providing a link from a remote Video Camera back to a main building
  • etc.

Features of our PtP Bridge links

  • Pre-configured: We configure to Ubiquiti best practices.
  • Max Power: Each unit is set to its maximum transmit power (not exceeding legal power limit for Australia), ensuring the strongest, fastest link.
  • Encrypted: Each link is encrypted with a unique passphrase to keep your link secure.

Things to look for

  • Range: The quoted ranges are for links, with absolute Clear Line Of Sight (cLOS) between the antennas and no interference. The way these products work is that as the distance between the antennas increases, the signal level drops and the speed drops to compensate. For each product we quote two Range/Speed pairs.
    1. Full Speed: This fastest this product can operate. The range shown is the maximum distance over which this speed can be expected.
    2. (Approx.) Half Speed: The range shown is distance over which this reduced speed (or better) can be expected. Beyond this range, the PtP link can still operate, but the speed drops even lower.
  • Speed: Different products can transmit data at different speeds. Some have 100Mbps Ethernet LAN ports (limiting real one-way transfers to about 90Mbps). Others have 1000Mbps (Gigabit) Ethernet LAN ports and are capable of links with speeds up to 440Mbps. For simple Internet sharing (where even NBN speeds are commonly less than 100Mbps), a 100Mbps product is more than sufficient.
  • Frequency Band: There are two frequency bands available.
    • 5 GHz: Only suited where there is absolute Clear Line of Site (cLOS) between the two antennas.
    • 2.4 GHz: Better penetration through MINOR obstructions (e.g. 1 small tree). More subject to interference from neighbourhood WiFi access points.
    • 900 MHz: This frequency can penetrate obstructions and is suitable for some non-Line of Sught (nLOS) appliactions. Because the frequency is close to the 850 MHz used by some mobile phone towers, Australian government regulations limit the maxiumum transmit power (EIRP) and bandwidth (Channel Width), which reduces the effective range and speed of 900 MHz links. However, for relatively short, obstructed links, 900 MHz can save the day where 2.4 and 5 GHz will not work.
