I bought two Nanostation M2's to relay the internet from my house to a second house on my rural property over a distance of 200-300 metres. I am on fixed wireless NBN and average around 44 Mbps download. There is a good line of sight between the 2 units and yet there was a drop of over 10 Mbps download at the second station. I was able to rectify this by using cat6 ethernet cables rather than cat5 cables internally at the second house.
Set up was an issue. I did not find Ubiquiti videos, instructions or forum very helpful. I was unable to phone an Australian number for assistance as Ubiquiti appear to only have a US number for support. The same applied with online chat. The time difference between SA and New York was problematic.
I use both a PC and an iMac computer and I found setting up with the PC was a nightmare. It was much easier to use the Mac to overcome the issues that arose. (I prefer using the iMac so that was probably just due to personal experience) In the end I was able to complete the set up by partially following a YouTube video by Chris at Crosstalk Solutions who showed a setup on two M5's. Thank you Chris!
Over the short distance I needed, I found that I had a good wireless transmission from the Nanostation at the main house and I could connect to various devices wirelessly in the second house. So, I could have gotten away with just installing the one unit. However, consistent internet use at the second house is important so I purchased the two units and I am happy that I did. I am using a 5 port switch to connect to various devices in the second house (via cat6 cables) and all are performing well.
Despite the messy setup issues I had I am very happy with the Nanostation M2. They do what was advertised and they do it well.
