Operating in the 24 GHz band, the airFiber-24 operates with aggregate speeds up to 1.4 Gbps.
This product is end of life. Although the Airfiber range does not completely replace the AF-24, the Airfiber range can perform better in certain installations. View the range here here.

Calculated (Theoretical) Distance limits in Australia
These distance limits are calculated from the Ubiquiti AirFiber Datasheet, and the legal EIRP limits set by the ACMA.

Reported Real World Links
The table below lists some real world results reported by customers. In each case we have verified that the links were not operating beyond the Australian 20 dBm EIRP limit. As you can see, performance has exceeded expectations. This can be explained by the receiver system (Antenna gain and/or sensitivity) being better than official specifications.

Notes and Assumptions
- Operating at 24.2 GHz
- Max Data Rate is the FDD rate. Full duplex, aggregate of traffic in both directions
- ACMA EIRP limit at 24 GHz is 100mW (20 dBm)
- Calculations done with rain fade values of:
- No Rain
- 1dB/km rain fade (= 6 mm/hr) (= 1/4" per hr)
- 2dB/km rain fade (= 12 mm/hr) (= 1/2" per hr)
Minimum Distance
The minimum distance between Master and Slave ends of the link depends on model:
- airFiber5 - 10 meters
- airFiber 24 and 24HD - 25 meters (using firmware 2.0 or higher)
Recommended Surge Protector
GbE POE Surge Protector
This in-line surge protector is suitable for use with the Ubiquiti airFiber.
From the airFiber User Guide:
|
Note: For added protection, we recommend installing two GigE PoE surge protectors. Install the first surge protector within one meter of the airFiber DATA port, and install the second surge protector at the ingress point of the location housing the wired network equipment. |
|
This surge protector is used in-line on a Cat5/Cat5e connection, and is used to help protect:
- ethernet interface damage in the event of nearby lightning storms, and
- building damage in the event of a direct lightning strike where a current surge flows down the ethernet cable.
