Tasmota Smart Plug with Voltage and Power Monitoring

Smart Plug pre-loaded with Tasmota, allowing direct http:// control.

Description

Common Smart Plugs are designed to only work via the manufacturer’s server and with special apps; the user never communicates directly with the device.

While this works well for home users, power users might prefer to be able to directly control the device using a simple http:// (web) interface.

Tasmota gives direct access to the device via simple http:// web access. The benefit of this for power users is that the device can be controlled using:

  • Web UI interface, or
  • http:// Command Interface. Ideal for control by external scripts.

Applications

  • Voltage, current, power, and energy monitoring: Local or Remote.
  • Device power switching: Local or Remote.
  • Internal script control, with various triggers; e.g. time, external commands, ...
  • External script control, with e.g. PHP, Linux shell scripts, Windows batch scripts, ....

UniFi - Troubleshooting Slow Wi-Fi Speeds

This article will provide suggestions for troubleshooting and resolving issues with slow Wi-Fi speeds on your UniFi network.

  • One of the most common Wi-Fi performance concerns reported is slower than expected Wi-Fi speed. This is due to a number of factors:

  • Speed issues can result from wide range of network limitations and problems- many of which have nothing to do with wireless.
  • Declined speed is easy to notice in typical network usage.
  • Internet speedtests are the most widely—and sometimes the only tool used to evaluate/benchmark network performance: and can be inconsistent and inaccurate.
  • ISPs and hardware vendors market products with peak theoretical performance that differ from real-life usage.
  • It's hard for users to know what speeds they need and should expect.

This article will help users better understand what Wi-Fi speeds to expect, resolve common issues and optimize their Wi-Fi configuration. View the full Guide here.

Online Training

The new UNMS Course has been added.

UniFi Training1

UniFi Training2

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
