New Products

LTU-PRO - 5 GHz PtMP Client Radio

Featuring an integrated 24 dBi dish antenna, the LTU Pro is a 5 GHz subscriber station that functions as a CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) in a Point-to-MultiPoint (PtMP) environment with the LTU Rocket as the basestation.

Proprietary LTU Technology

Based on Ubiquiti’s LTU technology, the LTU Pro is not impeded by the limitations of standard 802.11 Wi-Fi technology. Its custom LTU silicon and radio architecture provide up to 600+ Mbps of real TCP/IP throughput and modulation rates of up to 4096QAM.

CPE Modes

The LTU-Pro supports both bridged and NAT router modes to suit your specific deployment.

Frequency Split

The LTU-Pro can use different frequencies for TX and RX to avoid interference.

Robust Pole Mount Design

The LTU Pro is designed for quick yet reliable mounting on a pole. It features a built-in mechanical tilt; the mounting bracket allows convenient adjustments to the elevation with a range of ± 15°.

Tasmota Smart Plug with USB

Common Smart Plugs are designed to only work via the manufacturer’s server and with special apps; the user never communicates directly with the device.

While this works well for home users, power users might prefer to be able to directly control the device using a simple http:// (web) interface.

Tasmota gives direct access to the device via simple http:// web access. The benefit of this for power users is that the device can be controlled using:

  • Web UI interface, or
  • http:// Command Interface. Ideal for control by external scripts.

Security

'Normal' Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices behind a firewall are a potential risk as they expose a security risk that can be exploited by the server to which they are connected. This product does NOT connect to any third-party server, and is built on open-source software, so it is inherently much more secure.

Applications

  • Remote device switching.
  • Internal script control, with various triggers; e.g. time, external commands, ...
  • External script control, with e.g. PHP, Linux shell scripts, Windows batch scripts, ....
  • Where reliance on 3rd party servers is a concern.

Features

  • WiFi network connection (required)
  • Fast, internal web server.
  • Control via
  • Blocking of external (WAN) requests unless from permitted IP address.
  • No special apps required.
  • No 3rd party server required.
  • Bonus USB Charging port. Always on.
  • Clock. Set using NTP. Adjusted for Daylight savings.
  • Powerful internal scripting language: Rules
  • Timers. On/Off triggered:
    • at set times,
    • relative to Sunrise,
    • relative to Sunset, or
    • by rules.

Stories Of The Month
UDM Pro Redundant Configuration

This user used 2 x UDM's to create Redundant Configuration. Firstly, 1 x UDM Pro connected to 1Gbps Fiber ISP and then uplinked to a 24 Post USW Pro – from there it goes to Flex Distribution Switches and Flex HD Ap's and Flex Mini for Ethernet Access. He also kept a UCK for "my protect" Cameras as he didn't want to run Protect on the Core Router. The other  UDM Pro ran Protect on there, and is used as standby for the Primary UDM Pro.

OpenCV Object Detection with Unifi Video

"We had recently implemented a Senstar Symphony solution at work with people and vehicle detection for security and insurance purposes at a construction site. This got me wondering how I could do similar with my Unifi cameras. And more importantly how I could do it without spending a fortune. Total cost of this project to date is $0 and about 3 weeks of my free time outside work and family :-)

An evening of searching the internet eventually landed me at https://www.pyimagesearch.com/ I have to give 98% of the credit for this project to the wonderful examples and sample code provided by Adrian at pyimagesearch.com without his site this project would not exist.

using his examples and amazing explanations of the code involved I was able to piece together the following solution.

The solution is written in python and uses OpenCV https://opencv.org/about/"

UniFi Training1

UniFi Training2

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
