LTU AF5X-HD Provides UFiber Backhaul

Swapping in an AF5X-HD will almost always result in improved performance.

The LTU based AF5X-HD achieves 10X modulation much easier than the AF-5X for several reasons. First it can hit 10X with as little as -62 of signal (with 20mhz channel). Compare that with -54 or so for a regular AF5X.  Also the AF5X-HD allows 10X at a much, much higher conducted power level.  The old rules about how much gain you need and cranking down the conducted don't seem to apply to the LTU.

Hint:
uFiber Firmware update

UFiber, the first real Plug & Play GPON platform, allows building passive optical networks with virtually no previous experience, minimum effort, and at a low cost. UBNT has recently announced the all new firmware update for uFiber GPON, pushing UFiber GPON to the Next Level. Featured updates this firmware provides:

  • Router Mode – UFiber Nano G now includes a router mode option to keep your customers in a separate network behind NAT. It is possible to configure all router mode settings including the address pool with DHCP directly from the OLT web interface with a few simple clicks. Check out this guide for how to set up your first router profile. Router mode is fully supported with UFiber OLT, for third party OLT support, see this article.
  • Link Speed – Now you can switch the speed of the 1Gb LAN port of Nano G to easily cap your customers to 10Mbps or 100Mbps speeds.
  • PPPoE Settings – If you are using PPPoE on your network, now you can use Nano G as the PPPoE client directly and provision it with the needed settings from OLT.

Online Training

The UniFi Course has been upgraded and is now based on Version 4 of the Controller and runs on a CloudKey.

airMAXTraining

airMAXTraining V7

UniFi Training1

UniFi Training2

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
