Pay with Bitcoin

We now accept payment by Bitcoins.

Why?
Our customer base is inherently internet and technology savvy. This is the same group of people that tend to have invested in Bitcoins. Adding an additional payment method simply expands the range of options for our customers.

This is especially important now that the Australian Tax Office (ATO) has said:
... any capital gain or loss from disposal of the bitcoin will be disregarded (as a personal use asset) provided the cost of the bitcoin is $10,000 or less [more...]

Is it Dodgy to use Bitcoins?
No. More and more organisations are accepting Bitcoin. As we write this, some of the reputable organisations accepting Bitcoin payments are:
  • Microsoft
  • Expedia
  • Wikipedia
  • Subway
  • Webjet
  • More...
Is the ATO OK with this?
Yes. GST still applies. We still pay company income tax on profits, etc. Our accounting and Tax Invoices are all done in AU$. We keep records to show proof of the exchange rate used between AU$ and Bitcoins at the time we made the invoice.

The real advantages are on the side of our customers if they use Bitcoins to make a personal purchase. See the ATO comment above about a personal use asset.

Why buy through us?

Here at UBWH Australia, we have been working hard to improve our service offering to you, our customers. In doing so, we are excited to highlight a few of our advantages:

1. Authorised Ubiquiti RMA Centre for Australia. We have worked closely with Ubiquiti USA to set this up. When you lodge warranties with us and send the faulty item back, we send you a new one from our stock. No more lengthy turn around times. View the new RMA form here.

2. Same Day Dispatch. Our new warehouse will dispatch orders the same day in 98% of cases, for orders paid before 12.30pm AEST and shipped by Australia Post. Occasionally, large orders will cause a delay until the next business day.

If critical, please contact us prior to ordering. We will update you on the days proceedings and will endeavor to have your paid order dispatched same day.

3. Extended Warranties on everything we sell. Optional 2 and 3 year warranties are in addition to the normal Manufacturer's Warranty, plus the Consumer Guarantee required by Australian Consumer Law (ACL) for all Australian Consumers, at a small cost. These can be selected during the checkout process at http://ubwh.com.au

Stories Of The Month
Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X Unboxing and Setup

I recently subscribed to the NBN, and wanted to see how easy it was to set up a cheap Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X (ER-X) router.

I found a very good video showing easy NBN setup using the wizards, hope it can help you out too. My internet provider simply required a DHCP server to be created, so i used the WAN+ 2LAN2 wizard. The ER-X is affordable, comes with Australian power supply and offers 5 x Gigabit ethernet ports.

NanoG + U-Installer = portable Optical Power Meter

This is one of those great examples where two new Ubiquiti products come together in a very useful way.

The user has connected a U-Fiber NanoG GPON ONU to the new battery powered U-Installer. This provides and accurate, portable Optical Power Meter that can be used during installs and field checks to make sure the signal levels are correct.

Hint:
Scam Alert

As I'm sure you are aware, scamming and phishing is on the increase, and is at alarming levels. There is a recent scam that caught our eye earlier this month, it came from "Macquarie University".

These scam emails are getting better, with purchase orders seemingly coming from the University themselves. The purchasing officers name is correct, address details correct. The only tell tale signs are the emails from which the purchase orders came from, [email protected] and [email protected]

As the scammers become more prevalent, we too have to be more alert. If unsure, get a second pair of eyes to look it over and make phone calls to confirm.

Online Training

The UniFi Course has been upgraded and is now based on Version 4 of the Controller and runs on a CloudKey.

airMAXTraining

airMAXTraining V7

UniFi Training1

UniFi Training2

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
