Business Improvements

Here at UBWH Australia, we have been working hard to improve our service offering to you, our customers. In doing so, we are excited to announce a couple of key improvements:

1. Authorised Ubiquiti RMA Centre for Australia. We have worked closely with Ubiquiti USA to set this up. When you lodge warranties with us and send the faulty item back, we send you a new one from our stock. No more lengthy turn around times. View the new RMA form here.

2. Same Day Dispatch. Our new warehouse will dispatch orders the same day in 98% of cases, for orders paid before 12.30pm AEST and shipped by Australia Post. Occasionally, large orders will cause a delay until the next business day.

If critical, please contact us prior to ordering. We will update you on the days proceedings and will endeavor to have your paid order dispatched same day.

New Products Announced

Ubiquiti moves into GPON Fibre

GPON stands for Gigabit Passive Optical Network. GPON is a point-to-multipoint access mechanism. Its main characteristic is the use of passive splitters in the fibre distribution network, enabling one single feeding fibre from a central point to serve multiple customer locations.

Distances up to 20 km, and speeds up to 2.5 Gbps (shared) are supported.

Australian Applications

  1. "NBN" style installations by ISPs. Carriers use this technology around the world when running fibre to premises. Because of the NBN monopoly, such applications are limited in Australia.
  2. Multi-building sites. (e.g. Retirement home villages, Holiday villages, ...) can use this technology to provide high-speed internet within the site.
  3. Multi-tenant buildings. (e.g. Residential apartments, Hotels, Motels, ...) GPON can be used to distribute Internet from the 'basement' to each of the tenants within a building.

UFiber Optical Line Terminal (OLT)

The OLT is located at the central point ('Head End'), and is typically managed by the network provider.

Features:
  • 8 Gigabit Passive Optical Network Ports
  • Supports up to 1024 Clients (128 per PON Port)
  • Up to 2.488 Gbps TX and 1.244 Gbps RX
  • Supports up to 20 km GPON Links
  • Two 1G/10G SFP+ Ethernet Ports
  • Flexible Layer 2/3 Management Features
  • FastEthernet port for management
  • Console serial port for management
Class B+ GPON Modules (UF-GP-B+) are available for use with the UFiber OLT. Pricing and availability here.

The OLT's have been ordered and will be air expressed in when available. We will update the website when a delivery time is known. Details here.

UFiber GPON Optical Network Unit (ONU)

The ONU is typically located at the customer location.

UniFi Direct Attach Copper Cable with Modules

UniFi Direct Attach Copper Cable, 10 Gbps

These SFP+ passive cable assemblies are high performance, cost effective I/O solutions for 10G Ethernet and 10G Fiber Channel applications. SFP+ copper modules allow hardware manufactures to achieve high port density, configurability and utilization at a very low cast and reduced power budget. The high speed cable assemblies meet and exceed Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Channel industry standard requirements for performance and reliability.

1 meter and 3 meter cables in stock now, see here.
Ubiquiti UAP-AC-IW-PRO Dual Band AC In-Wall Pro Access Point, up to 1300Mbps.

The UniFi AC In-Wall Pro AP transforms an Ethernet wall connection into a simultaneous, dual-band 802.11AC Wi-Fi Access Point with 3x3 MIMO technology and 50% higher radio rates than the UAP-AC-IW. The UniFi AC In‑Wall Pro features two Gigabit Ethernet ports, one of which delivers PoE to power and connect an 802.3af device to the network.

UAP-AC-IW-PRO Key Features
  • 802.11AC Wi-Fi
  • Two Gigabit Ethernet ports
  • 450 Mbps at 2.4GHz with 5 dBi antenna
  • 1300 Mbps at 5GHz with 6.5 dBi antenna
  • up to 100m Range

The EdgeRouter Infinity (XG)

Maximum Performance
Powered by a 16-core, 1.8 GHz processor with 16 GB DDR4 RAM, the EdgeRouter Infinity features eight 10G SFP+ ports and a Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port for routing.

Advanced Applications
Powerful routing features – such as load balancing and failover– provide redundancy and increased performance for your network.

Redundant Power
The EdgeRouter Infinity uses a hot‑swappable modular power supply. It includes primary and backup AC/DC 150W power supply modules (2 total), so it automatically switches over to the backup if the primary power supply fails. Replacement DC/DC (RPS‑DC‑100W available soon) and AC/DC power supply modules sold separately here.

Management System
The EdgeRouter Infinity is supported and managed by the Ubiquiti Network Management System (UNMS). UNMS is a comprehensive management controller featuring a graphic UI that is easy to navigate. You can use a single control plane to manage registered EdgeMAX devices across multiple networks and sites.

Updating PoE Standards on the UniFi Product line

UniFi Access Points have always been built to be powered by PoE - it’s convenient, easy to setup and scalable. When Ubiquiti started producing UniFi nearly 7 years ago, 24v Passive PoE was the standard in the operator space so they opted to use 24v passive for the Enterprise lines (UniFi, EdgeMAX).

Since then, 802.3af and 802.3at PoE technologies have become the standard especially in the Enterprise space. The 802.3af/at standards provide a number of benefits over 24v passive that improve stability, allow for greater voltage, etc. For this reason, all future UniFi switches (from October 2017) will be 48V only, and all powered UniFi devices will accept 48V POE.

Online Training

Both airMAX-M and airMAX-5AC courses now available.

The UniFi Course has been upgraded and is now based on Version 4 of the Controller and runs on a CloudKey.

airMAX M Training

airMAX 5AC Training

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
