New Products Announced

Ubiquiti moves into GPON Fibre

GPON stands for Gigabit Passive Optical Network. GPON is a point-to-multipoint access mechanism. Its main characteristic is the use of passive splitters in the fibre distribution network, enabling one single feeding fibre from a central point to serve multiple customer locations.

Distances up to 20 km, and speeds up to 2.5 Gbps (shared) are supported.

Australian Applications

  1. "NBN" style installations by ISPs. Carriers use this technology around the world when running fibre to premises. Because of the NBN monopoly, such applications are limited in Australia.
  2. Multi-building sites. (e.g. Retirement home villages, Holiday villages, ...) can use this technology to provide high-speed internet within the site.
  3. Multi-tenant buildings. (e.g. Residential apartments, Hotels, Motels, ...) GPON can be used to distribute Internet from the 'basement' to each of the tenants within a building.

UFiber Optical Line Terminal (OLT)

The OLT is located at the central point ('Head End'), and is typically managed by the network provider. Ubiquiti has announced this product is being produced but there is no further detail at this time. We will update you when we know more.

UFiber GPON Optical Network Unit (ONU)

The ONU is typically located at the customer location.

The UFiber Nano G is a robust, high-performance GPON Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) that features an informational LED display and a sleek, sophisticated industrial design.

These have been ordered and will be air expressed in when available. We will update the website when pricing and ETA are known.

UniFi Direct Attach Copper Cable with Modules

Direct attach copper cable supporting up to 10 Gbps.

These SFP+ passive cable assemblies are high performance, cost effective I/O solutions for 10G Ethernet and 10G Fiber Channel applications. SFP+ copper modules allow hardware manufactures to achieve high port density, configurability and utilization at a very low cast and reduced power budget. The high speed cable assemblies meet and exceed Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Channel industry standard requirements for performance and reliability.

1 meter and 3 meter cables in stock now, see here.

Interchangeable Antenna Horns for IsoStation

Beam Performance Perfected
The IsoStation can use a variety of horn antenna sectors designed for increased co-location performance without sacrificing gain. Its unique beam performance and superb co-location characteristics allow for a higher density of sectors than traditional sector technology.

Symmetrical Antennas
Symmetrical horn antennas (45° included with unit, 30° sold separately) offer breakthrough scalability options for wireless systems. They are ideal for cluster sector installations with high co-location requirements.

Unique beam performance and great co-location characteristics allow for a higher density of sectors than traditional sector technology.

Asymmetrical Antennas
Asymmetrical horn antennas (60° and 90° versions sold separately) are designed to have attenuated side lobes and extremely low back radiation. They offer best front-to-back ratio in the industry and the lowest side lobe radiation.

These have been ordered and will be air expressed in when available. We will update the website when pricing and ETA are known. Details here.

Story of the Month
GPS Sync is a massive success!

Now with GPS sync the user is removing the old 120 degree antennas, and throwing up the HD-90's.
Before the HD-90's would have just self interfered. But no more....

Online Training

Both airMAX-M and airMAX-5AC courses now available.

The UniFi Course has been upgraded and is now based on Version 4 of the Controller and runs on a CloudKey.

airMAX M Training

airMAX 5AC Training

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
