We now have a range of Netonix WISP Switches in stock. These are POE switches - with a difference.
 

What makes Netonix Special?

Designed by a real Wireless ISP (WISP)

Chris from Netonix is the same guy that started RF Armor; the shield kit supplier. Chris addresses real market needs and has excellent product engineering. Chris found that it was hard to find a POE switch that did all he needed - including powering a Ubiquiti airFiber.

All Netonix WISP Switches can power airFibers, including the new AF-X range.
 

DC Power Option


The WS-12-250-DC can be powered directly by DC - including the Telco 48V standard.

New UniFi AC Range

Ubiquiti has announced a refresh of the popular UniFi access point range. The new products are all Wireless-AC based.

There is an exciting new model called the UAP-AC-EDU with a built-in speaker for high-quality sound and accurate voice reproduction. While the target market seems to be schools where there is a need for PA-type announcments into each room for Safety or other needs, there is also a need in the corporate world for similar safety or other announcements.

 

Availability

As typical for new product announcements, Ubiquiti is not shipping these in volume until later this year. If you would like to be contacted when we have available stock, please contact us.

Las Vegas NEXT Announcements

This week, Ubiquiti held their NEXT event in Las Vegas. They announced a few new interesting products. 

As usual with Ubiquiti Announcements - product availability in Australia will be some months off. As we know more, we will keep you informed.

Story of the Month

Upgrade to AF-5X Link

I have started upgrade of all our non AirFiber PtP links to AirFiber 5X.

First link to upgrade is a 9 km link that consisted of 2 x Rocket Dish 30 dBi with Rocket AC Lite.

The link was performing very nice with high throughput and full 255 QAM modulation. But I want low latency throughout my network as I have to compete against fiber in some areas....

Now supports Data Volume Limits

The UniFi-Wireless system has always supported a Guest Portal with features including:
  • Captive Portal
  • Time based access limits
  • Voucher Authentication
  • Payment gateway authentication (e.g. Paypal, Credit Card, ..)
  • and more...
Ubiquiti has quietly added Data Volume limits.

This is great news for Hotel, Motel, Cafe, ... applications where it is required that guests have their data volumes capped - just in case they decide to watch Netflix or similar.

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
