Client Isolation Feature

This switch can optionally isolate Ports 2-8 from each other, with Port 1 considered as the Uplink port.

The switch on the front panel has 2 positions:

• NOM (=Normal)
  • Every port can communicate with all other ports.
  • Normal LAN switch behaviour
• VLAN
  • Port 1 = Uplink port. Typically connected via a router to the Internet.
  • Ports 2-8 = 'Client' ports. These ports have
    • full connectivity to Port 1 (=Internet).
    • no connectivity with the other 'Client' ports.

Client Isolation Application (example)

Consider this example where there is a MAIN building (with Internet connection), and a REMOTE building that is rented out (e.g. AirBnB).

• PCs in both the MAIN and REMOTE buildings need to see the Internet.
• PCs in the MAIN building should be isolated from the REMOTE building.
• PCs in the REMOTE building should be isolated from the MAIN building.
• WI-SG108 Front Switch = VLAN position
• WI-SG108 Location = Near Internet router
• Connections:
  • Port 1: Connect to Internet Router
  • Port 2: Connect to REMOTE building.
  • Port 3: Connect (possibly via another LAN switch) to MAIN building PCs/WiFi/etc.
