The AF‑5XHD features Ubiquiti's newest LTU radio technology, offering greater channel bandwidths (up to 100 MHz) and higher adaptive modulation (up to 1024QAM). This results in total throughput up to 1Gbps with a range of up to 50 km (in Australia). The AF-5XHD also includes a special IP67 upgrade kit for enhanced protection from dust and water.

The compact form factor allows the airFiber X to be used with airFiber Slant 45 antennas, or instantly upgrade a 5 GHz Rocket™ link that uses a RocketDish™
RD-5G30/
RD-5G34 antenna (using Slant 45 Conversion Kit for Rocket Dish™ -
AF-5G-OMT-S45).

Note: For added protection, we recommend installing two GigE PoE surge protectors. Install the first surge protector within one meter of the airFiber DATA port, and install the second surge protector at the ingress point of the location housing the wired network equipment. |

This surge protector is used in-line on a Cat5/Cat5e connection, and is used to help protect:
- ethernet interface damage in the event of nearby lightning storms, and
- building damage in the event of a direct lightning strike where a current surge flows down the ethernet cable.
