Universal AC dual band AP 1200 Mbps

This product is based on Ubiquiti hardware and offers great flexibility with these operating modes:

  • Simple AP: A universal industry standard WiFi Access Point (AP). All WiFi enabled devices (laptops, smartphones, ...) can connect to this WiFi standard.
  • Simple Client: Also called Station Mode, this connects one or more wired (ethernet) devices to a WiFi network. For example: connect an ethernet only TV, camera or printer to WiFi.
  • Universal Repeater: In this mode, the device is acting as BOTH an AP and a Client. It acts as a WiFi Extender/Repeater. Great for areas around the house or office where the existing WiFi network has weak signal or dead spots. In this mode, the device only needs power (included). Multiple units can be deployed.
Unlike normal Ubiquiti UniFi-WiFi products, Universal WiFi products can extend the WiFi range of non-Ubiquiti products. That is: The main AP can be any brand, including the WiFi router provided by your ISP (e.g. NBN, iinet, Optus, Telstra, ...).
  • Universal Repeater, with Ethernet: This is the same as above, but adds the functionality of connecting a wired (ethernet) device as well.

Features

  • Extend Wifi of any ISP router
  • Fast: 300 Mbps 2.4 (2.4 GHz) & 867 Mbps (5 GHz)
  • Ubiquiti hardware: This product is based on the Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LR.
  • Powerful open-source firmware: We pre-install a customised version of OpenWrt. This firmware is the basis on which Ubiquiti built is own airOS firmware so it is not surprising it works with Ubiquiti hardware. It has a long and robust pedigree. It is reliable and very powerful.
  • Graphical User Interface (GUI): You have full control of the product.
  • PoE powered: Because it is 24 V or 48 V (802.3af) PoE powered, installation away from a power point is easy.
  • Ethernet port included: The ethernet port does not have to be used, but is available. Handy if your TV/device does not have WiFi.
  • Fast: For example, a High Definition (HD) Netflix video stream needs about 5 Mbps. This device can manage 300+ Mbps throughput so supports multiple simultaneous Netflix movies.
  • Network model: The "as shipped" configuration is below, and can be changed by the user:
    • WiFi Client: You configure with your WiFi SSID/Password. It then connects to your local WiFi network, much like a laptop would.
    • WiFi AP: This WiFi APs broadcast a new AP signal. They can have any SSID (WiFi name), including the same as used by the local WiFi.
    • Ethernet port: [Optional] This can be used to connect a wired device (e.g. PC, Netflix box, ...) to the WiFi network.
    • Bridge. All 3 interfaces above bridged together so that they are all on the same IP network.

Stories Of The Month
Airmax Repeater with unifi mesh ap to get WiFi into the wilderness for a drive in movie theater!

"I built a 20ft "drive in style" movie theater screen in the middle of the woods last year. It worked great, but it was always a struggle to actually get content onto my laptop to play on the screen.

In an effort to improve my setup this year, I am moving in some more dirt and trenching in electrical lines for the projector and computer. As part of the updates this year, I decided to add a wifi link to have a solid connection for streaming movies online. I tried using a cell phone booster, but there just wasn't enough signal to start with for a reliable connection. This is where we bring in the ubiquiti!"

My Small Home Network Setup

"At the end of 2019 I started looking for a more advanced router to use for my little home network, I was looking for the ability to setup Vlan's to separate my home office network from my home network, as well as having the ability to setup a guest network.

My ISP is TalkTalk and the router supplied by them whilst providing Ok wireless did not support the technologies I was looking for.

Whilst looking for a solution, I also wanted something that didn't look really messy, as I currently don't have a rack this would have to be on show all the time.

I came across Ubiquity, and after watching some YouTube videos about the UDM Base, I decided to go with this."

Tip: EdgeRouter - VLAN-Aware Switch

The VLAN-aware switch feature is used place the traffic from hosts and wireless networks in different VLANs.

The VLAN-aware switch feature allows the EdgeRouter to tag and untag VLANs on different switch-ports. This is done by grouping the Ethernet ports under the switch0 interface and adding the VLAN values to the switch-ports.

The switch0 interface will be associated with multiple VLAN interfaces (VIFs) to allow the devices to communicate between VLANs. Afterwards, firewall policies can be applied to the VIFs to limit this traffic.

Online Training

New course: UniFi V6 - Course 1

UNMS

airMax M

UniFi Training1

UniFi Training2

In a world's first, Online training (developed in Australia) is now available for the Ubiquiti products shown.

You benefit  in a number of ways:

  • Cheaper - than attending a formal 2-day course in a classroom environment.
  • Faster - no need to wait until the next classroom course is scheduled nearby.
  • More convenient - the self-paced courses can be scheduled around other demanding work.
  • More practical - the Ubiquiti classroom courses are great for students needing to delve deep into theory such as Radio Waves, Antenna design, TDMA protocols, Link-Budgets, UniFi-WiFi site surveys, etc. But in many cases, students just want to know how to setup some very common scenarios. These Installer courses are targeted with less theory and more practice.

The way each course works is ... each student:

  • signs up and receives by email a set of detailed course notes. These can be kept as a reference document for use later on-the-job.
  • is allocated real test hardware for 7 days. This is hardware the student gets to configure (over the Internet).
  • passes an online quiz for each module. When all module quizzes have been passed, the student gets emailed a Certificate of Completion.
