EdgeMAX Routers and Switches

EdgeMax, EdgeRouter, EdgeSwitch, EdgePoint, & EdgePower Products

• EdgeMax: This is the collective name of products running the EdgeOS software.
• EdgeRouter: These products are network Routers (Layer-3). They are available in a number of configurations, and some offer POE (Power over Ethernet) output and/or POE input.
• EdgeSwitch: These products are network Switches (Layer-2). They are available in a number of configurations, and some offer POE (Power over Ethernet) output and/or POE input. Most of the EdgeMax switches include functions like:
  • port by port VLANs
  • virtual DHCP servers (e.g. one per VLAN)
  • limited layer 3 (routing) functions
  • etc...
• EdgePoint: These products incorporate EdgeRouter or EdgeSwitch products in an Outdoor (pole mountable) package.
• EdgePower: These products are power supplies that are ideal for powering the EdgePoint products.

EdgeMax vs. UniFi

Many products in the EdgeMax range have a similar product in the UniFi range.

• EdgeMax: Very highly configurable with an editable config file. Remotely manageable if firewall access granted. Centrally managed by the Ubiquiti Network Management System (UNMS).
• UniFi Switch & Routing: Centrally managed using the UniFi SDN Controller software. Configuration options limited to the parameters exposed in the UniFi Controller. Cloud-ready remote management out of the box.
